KOROROIT CREEK HISTORIC FISHING VILLAGE AND JAWBONE MARINE SANCTUARY

This is a run down Fishing Village built in the 1920’s. There are still some boat sheds being used for fishing here. The area has a number of run down jetty’s, boat sheds and boats.

Across the water is a small bank full of bird life.

Meet time: 10.30am

Where: – Gray Reserve Road, Williamstown just in front of the Sports oval.

Parking: – Parking is difficult at the village itself. Please park on Maddox Road – to your left are 2 small parking lots.

One will be as you enter Maddox Road and it to your left the other car park is towards the end of Maddox Road near the bend to your left as well.

Alternatively park somewhere at any of the Sports Ovals in the area.

NOTE: Please do not visit this area during the sunset times or later at night. It has been rumoured to have unpleasant people roaming around.

JAWBONE MARINE SANCTUARY

From the Fishing Village we can start the walk from Maddox Road onto the Bay Trail West towards the sanctuary.

The West Side of the sanctuary has an environment of Salt Marshes, Mangroves, clay sands and patches of Seagrass.

The East Side of the sanctuary has a rocky environment with submerged boulders and ledges below the lowest tides, soft basalt rocks and rock pools which is home for tidal creatures. Lots of Marine life and Bird life.

The paths are either Gravel paths or Wooden Boardwalks very accessible for wheelchairs.

NOTE: Please wear good closed walking shoes in these areas.

Never walk through the long grass or shrubs as resident snakes do live in the area.

Do not poke your fingers into the Rock Pool Crevices.
