The Old Melbourne Gaol was built in the 1800’s, had 133 Hangings of prisoners including Ned Kelly, and was closed as a prison in 1929.
The staff at the Gaol have been advised by our visit and are happy for us to visit. However they have advised of the following:
NO TRIPODS, NO MONOPODS – NO COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY – NO EQUIPMENT OTHER THAN THE CAMERA IN YOUR HANDS AND YOUR BACKPACKS ON YOUR BACKS. AND SILENCE AND SOFT TALKING
This is due to ongoing group tours and they don’t want someone getting injured due to equipment in the way.
General Admission – $35 per adult – Concessions $30 per adult
General Admission includes Self guided Visit, Audio Guide and View History of Women and Children of the Gaol Display.
Wheel Chair accessibility is limited due to the 3 levels of the Gaol and the age of the building.
