Kevin Phelan Honourable Member Award
The ‘Kevin Phelan Honourable Member Award’ is given to a member who has shown consistently and over time, that they meaningfully contribute to all areas of the club and by doing so, elevate the experience of the club for members.
The club holds four distinct “pillars” as the standards of the club:
- Social
- Education
- Competition
- Community Engagement
A member who receives this award has demonstrated an engagement in all areas of the club but more-so, has invested time in actively promoting or organising in at least two of these areas.
Who is Kevin Phelan
Kevin Phelan’s membership in the Essendon Camera Club spans decades and in that time, Kevin has proven a commitment and loyalty to the club which stands as the benchmark that members can look to.
Social events, which are the backbone to club membership and create the strong sense of belonging and understanding of other members, were organised and facilitated from outings to weekends away.
A long-time member of the club course committee, Kevin not only contributed to the education of new and aspiring members but also mentored members as they began their photographic journey.
A staunch advocate for competition, Kevin has embraced all aspects of competing including adapting to changing trends while maintaining a committed resolve for traditional mediums. A vocal advocate for the continued strength in competition and a treasured resource of knowledge has helped the club continue to keep competition as a core value.
Community Engagement is a part of the club that many members may overlook however, it is this engagement that keeps the club active in the community and ensures new members can find us. It also strengthens our ties with other community groups. Kevin’s most recent work as “club photographer” for Strathmore Bendigo Bank has ensured our club is doing its part in strengthening those ties.
