Gary Smith started dabbling in photography from the mid 1970’s supplementary to his employment as an engineer researcher for Holden. Then again to his archaeology hobby. It gave Gary an understanding of some photography basics but he did not delve into the creative aspect of photography yet.

In 2013 Gary joined his 1st Camera Club. In 2015 he joined the Australian Photographic Judges Association and has achieved a level 6 in his training as a judge. He has judged at numerous camera clubs State, National and International
competitions.

He also served as a Vice President for this association and as a Training Director for many years.

As a Photographer, Gary has an interest towards Nature and Landscape. After completing Tertiary Studies in Photography he has started exploring other genres such as portraiture, macro and Star Photography and lately abstract and creative images, Time lapse and audio visual.

Early 2024 Gary has started his own YouTube channel Called “Snap Judgement” discussing all things photography from a Judge’s perspective and discussing national and international competitions giving bias , feedback of all genres as well
as technical aspects and more.
